Aquamarine

WHAT IS AN AQUAMARINE?

A gemstone that resembles the sea, as it quite literally means 'seawater', will dazzle you in a heartbeat. Aquamarine is a part of the beryl family (other gemstones from this family include emerald and morganite) which gives this gemstone the blue-green color and when iron is introduced during formation, it becomes blue.It is amongst the most popular and affordable semi-precious stones. Aquamarines are pretty easy to mine which is a significant factor in their widespread adoption. It has a good hardness level which protects it from scratches.

WHERE DO AQUAMARINES COME FROM?

Aquamarines can be found mainly in Pakistan and Brazil as well as in Myanmar, Russia and other places throughout the world. We use aquamarines mostly from Myanmar and Brazil.

ONE OF A KIND

The beautiful color of the Aquamarine has been popular throughout history especially with the Royals. It is hard to resist the allure of this gemstone, even for the establishment, whether it is Meghan Markle receiving late princess Diana's Aquamarine ring as a gift or having this gemstone in the Queen Elizabeth's Crown. In many ways it must be the clearness of the gemstone that makes the wearer feel free and at ease.
Aquamarine colors range from pale blue to a strong sea blue. The deep colors are the most valuable. A deeply saturated blue is the most desired and valued shade of aquamarine. While evaluating an aquamarine, one of the most important criteria is the color intensity. Even though some buyers may prefer aquamarine gems that have a light green shimmer in them, the most valuable stone is the pure, clear blue aquamarine gemstone. Smaller sized aquamarines (less than 5MM Aquamarines) typically have a lighter shade as their size limits their ability to showcase a deep blue color.
Aquamarine is a Type1 gemstone, which means that, most of the aquamarine gemstones are “eye clean” i.e., they lack visible inclusions. The best quality aquamarine is “clean” and free of visible inclusions, unlike their cousin gemstone, the Emerald. Aquamarine gemstones have excellent transparency and clarity, displaying a wonderful shine.

ALL THE MANY SHAPES

At Capucinne we love to play with shapes and cuts, making the most of every gemstone. Aquamarine is no exception. This gemstone has been cut in different shapes, from oval to square and most popular round. Whatever the shape, with its light blue color a piece with aquamarine will immediately demand attention.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR AQUAMARINE JEWELRY?

Avoid using harsh cleaning treatments such as ultrasonic cleaners and steamers or chemicals for aquamarines. The best method of cleaning a jewelry piece with an aquamarine is to use warm soapy water and a soft brush or cloth. Make sure your aquamarine jewelry is completely dry before wearing or storing. It is preferable to store it in a velveteen bag.
